Natyashastra – Verse 1

Pranamya sirasa devau pitamaha mahesvarau |
Natyasastram pravakshyami brahmana yadudahritam ||
Summary: Bharata Muni begins the text by bowing in reverence to Brahma (the grandfather, creator of Natya Veda) and **Shiva (Maheshwara, the lord of dance). This is not part of the story—it is a blessing offered by the author to the readers/sages at the beginning of the text. This is common in all scriptures (e.g., Vishnu Purana, Panini’s grammar).
